"Louis" Occasional Table
2010
IRE
American Walnut.
A pair of occasional tables that are carved using computer-driven routing machines, then carefully constructed using traditional cabinetry techniques. Neal begins with a 3D computer drawing allowing the routing machines to carve the interior forms from a solid piece of wood. The shape that is revealed is that of a delicate side table whose form and curves are reminiscent of a Louis XV occasional table. Neal's "Louis" series thus inscribes two time periods into his unique work which embodies Rococo style and 21st Century technology.
